Spent the day in London at the Fundment Adviser Edge Day

 

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Fundment ‘Adviser Edge’ day in London. A big thank you to Thomas Browne for the invitation – it was a day well spent, with plenty of fresh ideas and some excellent speakers. 

 

One of the standout sessions for me was from Jamil Qureshi, the sports psychologist. Jamil shared the story of the late Gary Speed, who, despite sadly dying by suicide, was at the very top of his game and had an incredible 90%+ success rate from the penalty spot. When asked about his strategy, his answer was fascinating. During his run-up, he wasn't deciding where to place the ball – he was deciding which way he was going to run to celebrate after he'd scored. That level of belief and commitment before the outcome is something I'll remember for a long time. 

 

I was also really impressed by Rachel Harris, a modern accountant who has built a seven-figure practice and founded Accountant_She. Her journey and perspective were both inspiring and refreshingly practical. 

 

One of the things I enjoy most about events like these is catching up with people and making new connections. It was great to spend time with my colleagues at ValidPath, Frederika Clay and Roger Perry, and to chat with fellow adviser James Brown during one of the breaks. Quite often, those conversations over a coffee are just as valuable as the sessions themselves. 

 

For me, the day finished with supper outside a lovely Italian in the London West End heat with two old friends, Atul Patel and Freddie Daniells. By chance, I also had a brief chat with the motivational Samantha Russell who walked past with her lovely family. Samantha will be known to many UK planners, in shaping our marketing strategies to be fit for purpose in the new AI world. A perfect way to round off a brilliant day. 

 

Days like these are a great reminder that our profession is about far more than technical knowledge. It's about mindset, relationships and continually learning from others.
