Big enough to cope, small enough to care

Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of attending the Parmenion ‘Let’s Grow 2026’ event in London. It was hosted at the iconic Cutty Sark—a venue that holds a very special place in my heart, situated just a stone’s throw from the Painted Hall room at the Royal Naval College where I was married in October 2005.
As always with Parmenion, the day was exceptional, but it was the calibre of the speakers that truly set the tone for the year ahead.

The Power of Mental Toughness A standout for me was Penny Mallory. Her session on Mental Toughness was a masterclass in courage, focusing on the four pillars of Control, Confidence, Challenge, and Commitment. Watching her on stage, she oozed the very confidence she spoke about. She is clearly an individual who thrives under pressure and converts challenges into opportunities on a daily basis. It was highly motivational and provided deep insights that I’ll be carrying into my work with clients this year.

Economic Outlook I also found Karen Ward from JP Morgan incredibly insightful. Her projections on savings in the UK are so significant that they deserve a post of their own—stay tuned for my thoughts on that next week!

A huge thank you to Andrea Villis for having me on her table. Thanks too to the inimitable Parmenion CEO Martin Jennings and the entire Parmenion team for such a well-organised and stimulating day. I didn’t stay long for the post-event drinks this time, as I am firmly on the "closing lap" of my Dry January commitment.
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve already raised over £1,000 for The Pickering Cancer Drop-In Centre, and I’m determined to see it through to the finish line!
