‘Integrity is going the right thing even when no one is looking’.
I used the think that was a given but sadly it seems it’s not. The word trust has been bantered around a lot recently, by politicians, the media, and social media platforms and in my humble opinion I don’t think any of them understand what it is!
So what is my opinion: What is Trust?
Here are a few of my thoughts and I would love to hear yours!
Doing what you say your going to do and not letting people down?
Being dependable, reliable, honest and loyal?
It should engender a feeling of confidence, in people, a business, organisation or institution.
An ability to rely on the trustfulness or accuracy of the information being presented.
This week I’ve heard a reference to ‘mistruths’ which for me is a distortion of the facts or a false representation of what actually happened.
In my world both personal and professional, trust is key to everything I say and do.
My children need to trust I will be there when I say Ill be there, they need to feel confident in me their dad.
My clients need to be able to rely on my business and know I will take care of their financial needs.
As a member of the Personal Finance Society I must follow a code of ethics which include:
• Act with the highest ethical standards and integrity
• Act in the best interests of each client
• Provide a high standard of service
• Treat people fairly, regardless of race or racial group; sex or sexual orientation; religion or belief; age and disability.
It’s a shame that I feel a need this week a need to reiterate and explain my interpretation of what trust means to me but at a time in history where we are surrounded by fake news and questionable leadership, I think its important to remember that the vast majority of people believe the same was I do!
